time for a capitalist post

I would like to juxtapose my last post with this one about some wonderful purchases I made (I would point out that I consider these purchases an investment in art). The first purchase was Dune. I'm surprised that many people don't know about Dune (in this case I am referring to the book). Since I haven't finished it, the only way I can explain it to people is with the following: "Dune is to Science Fiction what The Lord of the RIngs is to Fantasy". I hope this is an accurate comparison.

The other purchase I am even more excited about! I found Stella out on dvd. now for those of you who don't know about Stella....well for shame. I've heard it referred to as a modern day monty python. This may not be entirely true, but Stella is certainly a modern day absurdist dream. Needless to say it was cancelled after one season.

I don't practice Santeria, I ain't got no crystal ball

my first day of placement is done. I helped out at a food bank. There was one heart breaking moment, But I'm under an oath of secrecy (it sounds cool too). Personal Reflection: in a society that produces so much (90% of it is bullshit) shouldn't the basic necessities be a right, not a commodity to be bought and sold for profit? Should people be put through the process of having to prove residence and number in house hold, going into basements of community centre's, showing up late and then having to wonder where they will pick up food for the week?(etc etc) Isn't there a better way to do this? we have the resources. I could rant on, but i'll leave it at that.

heading back to the university

I feel like writing something inspirational, but I don't have much to say. I've been working the past 8 days in a row. Have to work today then heading to school tomorrow morning. Works been stressful. Feels more like running into brick walls then trying to empower (it's not all bad, I just need to get a day off, which I will get soon). There have been some dramatic times this summer, but its been a good experience.

I'm looking forward to my placement, I'll spend one day a week working in a community play center with children, and the other day helping out at a food bank. And since I'm working every other weekend here in brockville, I'll be busy. If something inspirational comes to me, I'll let you know.

I've also added a link to the Student Christian movement, check it out when you're bored.
