Oi! Oye?

I've been listening to a lot of folk lately. Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan. Ya, so basically I just watched the Bob Dylan documamntery and went from there (although I did have woody and pete downloaded before. Which side are you on: 'Will you be a scab or will you be a man". Good ole union songs.
However I have to mix it up with some fast and lous punk since I have musical ADHD.

My classes and placement are mostly all worked out now for sept. I only have one non-social work class. So here is the sound off:

FALL
Social Work Practice: Individuals, Famlies, & Groups
Social Administration & Policy
Working with Children and Youth
Placement

WINTER
Special Topics in Social Work: Sexuality: Identity Policies and Practice
Social Work Practice in Communities and Organizations
Personality (psych)
Placement

Placement counts for two classes so thats pretty alright. It shoul dbe a good year y'all

With God on Our Side- Bob Dylan (1964)

Oh my name it ain't nothin'
My age it means less
The country I come from
Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
The laws to abide
And that the land that I live in
Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
They tell it so well
The cavalries charged
The Indians fell
The cavalries charged
The Indians died
Oh the country was young
With God on its side.

The Spanish-American
War had its day
And the Civil War too
Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
I's made to memorize
With guns in their hands
And God on their side.

The First World War, boys
It came and it went
The reason for fighting
I never did get
But I learned to accept it
Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
When God's on your side.

The Second World War
Came to an end
We forgave the Germans
And then we were friends
Though they murdered six million
In the ovens they fried
The Germans now too
Have God on their side.

I've learned to hate the Russians
All through my whole life
If another war comes
It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
To run and to hide
And accept it all bravely
With God on my side.

But now we got weapons
Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
Then fire them we must
One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
And you never ask questions
When God's on your side.

Through many a dark hour
I've been thinkin' about this
That Jesus Christ
Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
You'll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot
Had God on his side.

So now as I'm leavin'
I'm weary as Hell
The confusion I'm feelin'
Ain't no tongue can tell
The words fill my head
And fall to the floor
If God's on our side
He'll stop the next war.

Faith and Doubt and so on

there are paths we travel as children in the faith, but real faith doesn't come until you reach the end of the path and find nothing - St. John of the Cross*

When a person looks around and finds no evidence for God, and yet follows anyway, she has reached the highest levels of faith.- C.S. Lewis *

6.2.1 We are not always certain that God is with us.
At times God calls us
to live in this world
without experiencing the divine presence,
often discerning God's nearness
only as we look back.
- Living Faith, Presbyterian church of Canada

"Until you do what you believe in, how do you know whether you believe in it or not?"- Leo Tolstoy

"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase."- Martin luther King Jr.

"It is not as a child that I believe and confess Jesus Christ. My hosanna is born of a furnace of doubt"- Fyodor Dostoevsky

"Fanaticism is...overcompensation for doubt."- Robertson Davies

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart. And try to love the questions themselves."- Rainer Maria Rilke

"There lives more faith in honest doubt, Believe me, than in half the creeds." - Lord Alfred Tennyson

"The believer is happy; the doubter is wise."- Hungarian proverb

I wanna go to the carnival

So last week I worked 80 hours. It was...intense? But now I can regain a moderate social life. DSLG has decided to keep me on has part time during the school year (every other weekend). So I will be a busy boy. Also they can't really pay me student wage, so I'll get a modest pay increase of 30% (if my math is right) and I think I'll be joining the unionized workers of the world (Singing: 'solidarity forever for the union makes us strong'). I can pretty much afford to drop out of school, although I have a feeling I wouldn't be keeping my job for too long if I did, it's a bit of a catch 22... but not really. It'll also be good to be able to put the stuff I am learning about counselling, crisis management, etc, into practice as I learn it and see how it works. (oh the joy of human guinne pigs)

I also went to brockville's movie theatre last night (got paid to go, I love my job). There doesn't seem to be a main theatre, instead just six medium theatres, but I'm not complaining, it was good times. I wonder if there is anyone around this week (with it being zion hill camp and all). I may have next weekend off, so if anyone is going up, let me know.
