sermonette 1

Please forgive me, I promised myself that I wouldn't do this. There nothing I hate more then people who use thier blogs write sermons, they should be shot! But tonight my church had evening groups, and my groups topic was 'Towards a world without Aids'. So of course part of the conversation was about homosexuality (although i must point out that AIDS is not a 'gay disease'). Of course this lead to the topic of is it a sin, and so on... anyways this post isn't about homosexuality, well not totally. I've written about scripture that talks about homosexuality before, and my personal view, but one thing people often refer to is the creation story where God creates man and then woman. Well I was thinking about that story alot so here is my mini sermonette/musings:

Most Christians today (but certainly not all), no longer feel the need to see the creation story as literal. The earth is older then 45,000 years (or whatever the number is). They are secure in thier faith to view it has a beautiful symbolic, and traditional story. I thought of that and then thought of God creating man and then woman, essientially husband and wife. But theres more to this then marriage (for which there is no record). When God created His first society, the first human social group, it wasn't based on class, caste, wealth, or anything else. The first society was a family. Not to say that we should all form famlies, but rather to say that we all started off as one family, and one family we should remain.

It is often said that you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family. Well how often do we has a family of humans, or as a family of christians, pick who is in and who is out? who has affluence and who has poverty. Who is dirty and who is clean. We started off as one family, and one family we should remain. A family where all are welcome and we help one another out, even if we don't share the same views, etc.

Anyways, maybe i'm way off, or you think i'm socialist scum. Thats ok, I have booze to take care of my problems. Love you guys.

beards, church and dirty bird

turkey day is done, and I've gained and extra 5 pounds, but luckily when you way 300lbs, no one notices if you're packing an extra 5! I was suprised that some family members gave me various comments about my look. For instance I was told that I looked like a biker with my pony tail and beard. Someone else said I looked Amish. So there you have it, I look like an amish biker? Anyways, I've taken great joy in my beard, even if it is thin and patchy. My style of beard is a chin curtain. It's pretty sexy, and it covers my chins.
PLease make sure to check out the greatest beard site ever!

I 'm also working on an assignment for my social policy class. i have to review a social program. Originally I was supposed to do something in the realm of daycare, but of course there are no social programs in daycare since it is all privatized (thank you conservative government and the liberal government before them). So I got assigned a program, I'm reviewing Sheppards of Good Hope, a homeless shelter. It was pretty funny cause when the prof assigned it to me he wanted to give me somthing that would push me outside my comfort zone. So he gave me a little prep speach on faith based social practices including things like being prepared incase they try to convert me, etc., I just sat there and noded. I guess by my appearence he would have never gussed that just a few years ago I would have been the one out there trying to get my soul numbers up (I was never actually that bad). Anyways, the evangelical in me is all but dead. Just working on building up something new.

Other then that the dirty bird is sitting pretty in my gut! Here's to the onslaught of winter when the true canadians come out to complain! I like exclamation marks!
