First an apology Then some Ramblings.

First of all, let me say, Tim, i'm sorry. What I said was not meant to be directed at you, it was meant to be genral comments which were sparked by our conversation. And don't take the Bastard thing to seriously either, it's been my swear word for the month.
I somtime forget that people outside of my brockville friends read this and so I don't really censor myself (not that i would anyways).

The thing that sparked my last post was when we we're talking about our kids at camp and I mention how my campers only read the sex stories in the bible so I tried to have the sex/porn/jerking talk with them (they were good ole Jr. Highers) and what I thought you said (and I could have been wrong) was that when ever sex poped up in conversation you guys changed the subject. If I miss read you, sorry.

And here come the ramblings (generalized thoughts directed at no one and everyone (including me))

As a youth leaders we cannot afford to give our kids a watered down view of the world, sin or our faith in God. This society has hundreds of avenues with which they can drain the life out of us and our kids. (i'll probablly be focusing on sex cause it was what started all this, but there are many other issues)

It's not enough to say porn is bad because it says so in the bible (commiting lust in your mind/heart) and then not going any deeper because it might 'corrupt' the kids. We can't shelter kids because, guess what, there's no shelter left. Kids are having sex at age 12 and younger, they spend more time at school, and in front of the t.v./computer then they spend with thier parents or church. If they were'nt raised christian then they've likely had more then a decade of nothing but the crap that this society has taught them, and if they we're raised christian they're probablly just has messed up and confused.

We need to educate these kids to think, ask questions. We can't say 'porn is bad, don't do it'. It won't help anyone in the real world. We need them to understand the issues (sticking with the porn theme). We need them to understand why it's wrong, it's a sin against God, It corrupts your view of women, Degrads them, Can lead to issues when you finally do get married and have sex (unless of course they're not waiting which leads to other discussions), most people don't look like that, It can lead to addiction, which will lead to other types of porn which will lead to jail time (nobody wants to say or think about that one!).
And after they can understand and think through the issues we have to have plans for when they fail, because they will, we all do. And plans for when they decide to give up trying to fight the temptation or desire.

This kind of thought process development goes for anything. LIke reading the bible. Why is it in the 10 commandments it says not to murder and then in Ecclisasties the whole thing about thier being a time to kill. Because if we can't teach our kids to process information and facts on thier own then one day they will be in college or at thier job, away from christian leadership, and some one will come up to them and say 'hey look here where the bible contradicts itself, your religion doesn't make sense.' Then the kids won't know how to think about it for themselfs and they just say 'ya, you're right, screw this' (or somthing along that line).

Anyways, thats that for that line of rambling.
